Kooomo enables Kaliedy to launch a digital-first brand during a pandemic

Premium online store for the modern Irish family saw 162% revenue increase following launch of Kooomo platform

Kaliedy, Ireland’s newest online-only nursery and toy store has witnessed a 127% increase in transactions and 162% increase in revenue from its initial three months to the second three months after leading eCommerce platform provider Kooomo launched its website during the pandemic.

Kaliedy is an Irish online baby nursery and toy business where busy parents and families can shop for baby essentials, nursery items, toys, and books from wherever and whenever they want. Built upon over 95 years of experience in the baby industry, Kaliedy offers parents-to-be and families a simplified shopping experience, tailored to suit all their needs and is also the exclusive stockist of the Early Learning Centre toys in Ireland.

When launching, its aim was to overcome the ‘see before you buy’ approach to shopping and it therefore chose to work with Kooomo in order to ensure an optimised user experience was provided.

Ben Ward, Head of Digital at Kaliedy says “We have plans to expand outside of Ireland and Northern Ireland in the near future and certainly, what Kooomo is offering in terms of tax, currency and languages will be a big plus for us when we go to expand. I personally would have used different platforms in the past - for example, I used Magento for nearly 10 years and there are pros and cons to every platform.

“With Kooomo and their project managers and developers, it is a collaborative approach and we’re very happy with the system. It has great integrations with top tier partners as well as around logistics, so it’s been a good experience so far.”

While the launch has been successful, and Kaliedy has steadily grown since its inception, it hasn’t been without its challenges. Ben adds, “Between the pandemic and Brexit, it’s been a very difficult time for retailers.

“In the very first few weeks of January we had many difficulties due to the new changes to customs and duties - but that’s also worked in our favour because customers are now asking questions like “where are you situated? Is there going to be extra fees or charges levied when the product arrives?” and we’re able to say, for the most part, that we are based in Ireland and we can deliver the next day and no you won’t have any additional charges when DPD arrive at your door.”

Ciaran Bollard, CEO of Kooomo adds “When we launched the Kaliedy website last year, we had no doubt that it would go from strength to strength and this is evidenced in the increased transaction and revenue figures it’s been witnessing. The launch of this site is proof that a digital-first approach can aid organisations in overcoming challenges, as we saw through the pandemic and Brexit.

“We now look forward to continuing on this growth path with Kaliedy and seeing it become a household name outside of Ireland, as well as helping it to broaden its channels and become an omnichannel retailer.”
