Kooomo announces new updates to improve the customer experience

Global eCommerce platform Kooomo reveals important platform updates in preparation for high demand this Christmas

Global eCommerce platform, Kooomo, has today announced further updates to its platform, including improved accuracy of stock, increased garment context through updated size charts, greater flexibility when managing cookies and a progress bar which indicates how close a consumer is to qualifying for free shipping.

Ciaran Bollard, CEO, Kooomo says, “As we move into the final stretch of 2020, our team of developers continue to adapt the Kooomo platform to changing consumer needs in preparation for the busiest shopping season of the year. These important updates demonstrate our commitment to improving the customer experience (CX), by ensuring merchants can offer an innovative and enjoyable eCommerce journey.”

Kooomo outlines its latest updates:

1.Movement panel adapted to work with expiry dates
The platform has now been adapted to consider expiry dates in terms of the merchants’ inventory. When a merchant creates a movement, there is now an option to assign an expiry date and a batch reference number for the products.

When the expiry date of a movement has passed, the stock will be updated and removed from, say “available” for example. This will be of use to merchants where they have time-sensitive stock available or limited-time offerings.

2.New size charts available to consumers
Per the request of a specific client, size charts have now been updated with the ability to jump between metrics (cm/inches) depending on what the brand wants to show and what the customer might be familiar with.

While this has been a specific, requested update, the code can be reused or modified in various ways to be implemented on other merchants’ stores with some development involved. Consumers can therefore shop with increased confidence as they are provided with further context on their garments.

3.Infinite scrolling for a seamless CX
The updates to our product category and search page include four new types of pagination: infinite scroll, load more, pages and pager. Our team of developers made adjustments related to page numbers in URLs, thereby enhancing the CX by allowing for a better flow between scrolling through and viewing products.

4.   New cookies banner

In compliance with the latest EU regulations on GDPR, Kooomo has updated the settings for its cookies banner which appears on the front end of all online stores. Consumers will now have the choice to accept whole cookies or select by category. For example, they can choose between only necessary, only advertising or only analytics.

While the appearance on the front end is still being constructed, Kooomo has added a back end panel in the admin to manage cookies set by third parties. This will instantly provide information to the cookie banner that is presented to customers.

Merchant themes will need to be updated to support this latest update, but it will provide greater clarity and flexibility when managing cookies.

5.   New reset password flow

Kooomo continues to tighten security measures with a new flow for resetting passwords. While previously customers who forgot their login credentials would receive a temporary password, they will now receive an email straight away with a link to update this completely.

This is the default for all new merchants, thereby enhancing the CX by minimising the steps in the process. Once the link is sent, it is valid for approximately 20 minutes.

6.   Product Image versioning

As shoppers settle into the holiday season, Kooomo is doing all it can to ensure its clients’ websites run as efficiently as possible. As part of this, Kooomo has introduced new typology to ensure the correct images show on the front end of sites during product updates.

For example, if a retailer is updating an image to the latest version of the product, they can now edit the value of the given product to 1. This minimises the margin for error when updating stock images or content on a website.

7. Progress bar for free shipping
And finally, a brand-new feature implemented is the ‘free shipping progress bar’. This is visible on the front end throughout the entirety of the customer journey from the moment they begin loading their cart. It provides the customer with a live status that shows how close their order is to qualifying for free shipping.

This should encourage increased spending and also improves the CX in terms of continuous clarity, removing the need to “view basket” and return to shopping should they wish to add more.
